What is COP?

COP stands for Coefficient of Performance

COP is quoted as a number, such as 16.60

For each kW of energy input, 16.60 x kW would be output

The higher the output, the lower the running costs

Installation

Heat loss

If you are thinking of heating your pool you should cover the pool when not in use as 80% of heat loss occurs through surface evaporation, a separate solar or bubble cover is a worthwhile investment if you don’t have an existing cover.

With an above ground pool it is especially important to keep it covered as these pools are not well insulated against heat loss – additional insulation around the sides and bottom of an above-ground pool can help to retain valuable heat – in fact properly insulating your pool can extend your season or even reduce the size of heat pump required.

The 7kW, 11kW and 14kW models come fitted with a mains cable, RCD and plug as standard, making them suitable for outdoor sockets, this cable can be removed and the unit can be hardwired if required.

The other heat pumps in the range will require electrical installation by a qualified electrician, the use of a separate MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker, slow type, C or D curve) is recommended due to increased full load current when the compressor starts up. Full installation guidelines can be found in the user manual including the required fuse rating and cable size.

The electrical connection marked water pump should not to be used for connecting your pump if using a sand filter as flow protection on the heat pump will switch the power off preventing backwash operation (flow is reversed during backwashing).

Water inlet and outlet connections are 1½ inch / 50mm female glue sockets across the range.

If the flow rate through your heat pump is too high it can take longer to heat your pool or you may struggle to achieve your desired temperature, our bypass kit for above ground pools optimises the flow rate to maximise the heat transfer to your pool water. A bypass kit also allows the circulation and filtering of pool water without heating and for winterising your heat pump.

The ProTeam iX features built-in Wi-Fi connectivity as standard (requires Wi-Fi network with suitable signal strength) and can be controlled from your smartphone. The ‘Smart Life’ App is available for both iOS and Android smartphones.

The App can be used to view the current pool water temperature, adjust the desired temperature, switch between heating and cooling modes, set the timer and turn the heat pump on and off remotely.

Your ProTeam iX Inverter swimming pool heat pump should always be installed outside, restrictions on air flow around a heat pump such as dense vegetation or solid surfaces such as sheds, fences or walls will lead to a drop in efficiency and heating ability, it especially important that cooled air can be properly dispersed away from the unit.

ProTeam heat pumps are designed to be outside and the ABS case provides protection from the weather.

The manufacturer literature may state that the heat pump should be positioned above the waterline, the assumption being that pools are in-ground, therefore the heat pump would sit at ground level.

If you have an above-ground pool please position your heat pump at ground level (therefore below the waterline), there is no need to elevate the heat pump.

Caring for your heat pump

We often get asked if you need to service a heat pump, the answer is not unless there is a specific issue. However you should periodically clean the evaporator fins, as dirt and debris will build-up through normal use, over time this will reduce the efficiency of the unit.

Heat pumps should always be winterised (drained of residual water) at the end of the season and covered when not in use.

Lo-chlor Heat Pump Cleaner

Lo-chlor heat pump cleaner removes grease, dirt and other debris, this low foaming heavy duty formula is specifically designed for the cleaning of heat pumps and heat exchangers

✅ Provides better efficiency, lower energy consumption and costs
✅ Longer life of your heat pump
✅ Clean in 10 minutes, without mechanical tools
✅ Protects against corrosion
