Packaged Pumping Stations
At Automated Environmental Systems we specialise in the supply and building of packaged pumping stations, ranging from small tanks for domestic installations to large complex builds for commercial, industrial, building and renovation projects.
Smaller pumping stations are normally available ‘off-the-shelf’ for delivery next working day, delivery times on larger tanks vary according to the specification of the build.
What is a packaged pumping station?
Packaged pumping stations provide an efficient and economical way of installing a drainage system that can be used to remove foul water, surface water and sewage in areas of low gravity or where connection to the main drain is difficult.
A Packaged Pumping Station is a mechanical device installed in a sewer, water system or other liquid-carrying pipeline to move a liquid to a higher level, usually consisting of one or more submersible pumps installed in a tank. They are sometimes referred to as ‘sump pumps’, ‘sewage systems’ or ‘pump stations.’
Packaged pumping stations are usually self-contained units that are built off-site and delivered ready to install either below or above ground.
Sewer Systems and Pumping Stations
Sewer pipes generally rely on gravity to move waste water, allowing the fluid to flow slowly downhill until it reaches a low point, then pumping, or “lift” stations sited at the low point push the waste water back uphill to a high point where gravity can once again take over the process.
The discharge pipe is a continuous main through which sewage or effluent is pumped to a final destination.
Pumping stations are usually underground structures that foul, surface water or sewage are discharged into.
Pumping stations vary in their design, but in general the waste water and sewage is discharged into a wet well which also houses the submersible pumps.
In larger stations there may be a separate dry well which houses the pumps, or the pumps may be housed above ground near the wet well.
A packaged pumping station is normally manufactured from strong, impact-resistant polyethylene or GRP (glass-reinforced plastic). The pumping station is supplied with fitted internal pipework, ready for installation below (or above) ground, after which submersible pumps and control equipment are fitted.
Features may include controls for fully automatic operation; a high-level alarm that operates in the event of pump failure; and possibly a guide-rail system, to permit easy removal of pumps for maintenance or repair.
Choosing the right pumping station
Whether you require an ‘off-the-shelf’ solution, such as our popular mini drain and mini foul packaged pumping stations, or a bespoke single or dual pump system designed to suit your particular requirements, our pumping stations come in a range of sizes and options including guide rails, pump alarms and control equipment and MDPE discharge pipework.
Our standard tanks are manufactured from polyethylene which is extremely durable and offers good chemical and caustic resistance, being plastic the tanks are also corrosion resistant and installed correctly will offer many years of service. For more specialist applications we can manufacture tanks from GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastics), these tanks can be made to measure, and offer mechanical strength and additional thermal or chemical handling properties, dependent on requirements.
Above ground pumping stations
A range of self-contained and manufactured options suitable for the drainage of dirty/grey water, sewage and effluent. Options include compact lifting stations for pumping waste water away from rooms that are below sewer level, self-contained macerator units for handling toilet waste, hot tank pumping systems to handle waste water up to 90°C.
Below ground pumping stations
A range of manufactured options suitable for the drainage of foul water, surface water and sewage in areas where gravity flow or access to the main drain is not available or easily accessible.
Pumping stations are available in a number of sizes and depths, with free standing or guide rail mounted submersible pumps and control equipment for automatic operation.
Tanks are available in 600mm, 1.0 metre, 1.25 metre, 1.5 metre, 1.8 metre, 2.0 metre, 2.5 and 3.0 metre widths and a range of depths from one to eight metres.
Larger tanks are available in horizontal orientation.
If you would like to talk to us about packaged pumping stations give us a call on 01842 819130, we are more than happy to talk through your requirements or answer any questions you may have. We also supply MDPE discharge pipe, compression fittings and weather proof kiosks. If you would like a quote on a pumping station or any other products we supply, please call or email our sales team.
Properties with pumping stations
The Government has introduced new rules that simplify the way septic tanks and small sewage treatment plants are regulated in England, as of January 2016 septic tanks and small sewage treatment plants no longer need to be registered in order for a property to be sold.
However, owners of properties with septic tanks and small sewage treatment plants are still responsible for meeting ‘general binding rules‘; all private pumping stations and septic systems should be properly maintained and must not cause pollution.
Pumping station servicing
We recommend that all pumping stations purchased from us are serviced regularly to ensure that all pumps, pipework, valves and control equipment are kept in full working order.
On a domestic pumping station a minimum of an annual service is recommended, on higher usage pumping stations a more frequent service arrangement may be advisable, please call us for details and a quote.
We have a network of fully qualified service engineers that can cover most areas of UK.
